Meridian, Mississippi
As my week in Meridian draws to a close, I can only look back and say it’s been a memorable trip, but then, they all are memorable — some for good reasons, some for bad.
This rooster, photographed at Highland Park shortly before he began chasing me, was one of the happier memories.
I left pennies on the grave of a gypsy queen, and I rode a carousel. I wiled away the afternoon with a shoe shiner, and I ate peanut butter and crackers in a fancy restaurant. I pondered life’s mysteries, faced my nemesis, found my soul, met my inner cowgirl, and drank more coffee than any human being should consume.
It’s been one of the more interesting assignments I’ve had in a long time. Memorable. Yes. I will always remember Meridian.
