Work shakes the hold the darkness has over me, but only for a few hours. I sometimes wonder if I’m really happy while on the job or if I’m so busy faking it that I forget how miserable I feel.

Went to a waterfront bar this evening — Shaggy’s in Pass Christian. Nothing worse than sitting by yourself in a smoky room, watching middle-aged couples stagger drunkenly around the dance floor to “Stuck on You” by Lionel Richie. Just shoot me now.
