Another trip, another hotel. I’m so tired. I sometimes wonder how I manage to make these drives alive. Hell, I got lost coming out of Tuscaloosa today. That’s a record for me. I usually wait until I’m at least 40 miles out of town to get turned around backwards.
I have no idea how long this trip took. It seemed interminable. This is only the second time with the new car, but it’s learned the routine quickly — I stumble to the driver’s seat, it charges ahead, long after my brain checks out.
And somewhere on the other end, a keycard is handed over. Suitcases are hefted inside. Electronics are laid out to charge. Phone calls are made. Emails are returned. Face is washed; clothes are stripped; soft pajamas are pulled over a worn body.
I forgot my fuzzy blanket this time. I wish I hadn’t. I need it.
