Las Colinas, Texas
There’s something wonderful about peering in the windows of closed businesses. Devoid of the human hurry, the jumble of wants and needs and demands, a room becomes a tabula rasa. A place fraught with promise.
There, among the faint odor of lingering garlic, lies a whiff of anticipation, excitement, danger, pleasure, contentment. Whatever your heart desires. Whatever your imagination fancies.
And so I stood that afternoon, forehead pressed to the glass, writing a tale that only I will know, concocting plots and characters and conflicts and resolutions. And though I was disappointed that the restaurant was not open, the feast was far more satisfying than any meal I could have eaten.
