I’ve given up trying to predict my life. As soon as I think I have it figured out, it takes a wild new turn.
I’m walking into new territory, a world I only vaguely remember. I went to the YMCA and spent two hours letting the elliptical, treadmill, and weights wring my muscles into a quivery mass of jello. I went to the tanning salon, slathered coconut oil on body parts that haven’t seen sun in years, and climbed inside the fluorescent coffin capsule to meditate on a short piece of fiction.
I came home, took a long, hot shower, and blew my hair straight. I slid into a pair of jeans I never thought I’d wear and paired them with a white button-down I coudn’t wear the day I bought it. I sprayed perfume I once couldn’t afford over hair I was once afraid to grow long.
I spend little time at home moping these days. My life is busy. Hectic. But incredibly fun. And I never, EVER thought I would say THAT.
