Northport, Alabama
It could have been anywhere really. England, France, Italy, a dirt road in Alabama. It made no difference to her. Settling among the wildflowers, she laid her head on his chest and let her mind wander as the bobbing, yellow heads laughed and danced above.
Every bone in her body ached, and she shifted fitfully, drawing a raised eyebrow. The words rose in her throat, and then fell again. The days were getting longer. There was time.
She closed her eyes and reveled in the silence, absorbed the sound of his breath rising and falling as the sun melted into the horizon. In the distance she could see summer, but here, among the wildflowers, the world stood still and waited.
And comforted by his presence, she closed her eyes and slept.
