Someone mentioned yesterday that I don’t seem to write as much when I’m happy. That’s at least partially true, but in this case not really the cause of my reticence. Mostly, I’m just exhausted. I’m sleeping only four to five hours a night, getting up early, and going all day on my project.
Like athletes before a game, I am extremely cautious of how I spend my down time. I save everything for the project. All of my words, all of my images, all of my emotions, all of my passion. Every feeling gets channeled into the work, and the work is all-consuming. At the end of the day, I just don’t have much left to give.
And it’s about to get better. Or worse, depending on your perspective. My main project is growing in scope. In addition, I am shooting another semi-related project on Sunday for The Mobile Register.
The road has become my friend again. And for the first time in a long time, I know where I’m going. It’s a good feeling.
