Photographing children always unnerves me. Something about the intensity of their eyes, the way they seem to see straight through you.
This photograph was just a quick shot grabbed during the wedding rehearsal last Friday. Although I was supposed to be photographing the wedding party, I found myself drawn to the bride’s three-year-old daughter, Skyler, and the way the setting sun was backlighting her hair.
I was trying to capture her laughing and playing, but somehow I managed to record something altogether different, something unreadable.
A part of me keeps looking at this photograph, wanting to like it, but I can’t. It just disturbs me somehow.
