I did not plan to shoot this photograph today. I did not plan to prepare this meal. Truth be told, I did not even plan to get out of bed.

Sometimes you just need someone to lift your head up out of the water long enough for you to catch your breath. Talk you down from the ledge. Hold your hand until the room stops spinning. And sometimes you’re so strung out that you’re little more than a dog backed in a corner, snarling at every hand that approaches.

I’ve seen my share of ledges. I’ve bitten more than my share of outstretched hands. I’ve taken better photographs. I’ve eaten better meals. But I’ve never had a better friend.

Thank you. Always.
