What could be more special than capturing a secret moment between a mother and child? I was photographing this little two-year-old and his twin for a local furniture store’s ad when I caught his mother giving him an Eskimo kiss. The photo won’t be used for the ad, but it made me happy to shoot it anyway and gave me the chance to play with David of Chromasia’s formula for getting that special “glow.” Basically, I followed his directions to the letter, making a new layer and then adding a 15 pixel Gaussian blur and setting the blend mode to overlay.
Wanting a little bit more luminous effect, I zeroed out the hues and saturation. The day started out gray and rainy, but this photo shoot made my day. I finished up with a 1930’s-themed party for the magazine this evening, which was kind of fun. Tomorrow should offer up a few newspaper assignments, so maybe Wednesday’s post will be a little photojournalism for a change. We’ll see.
