Ashes to Ashes

Photojournalism

Northport, Alabama

This is a good example of how you can’t judge an assignment by its subject matter. Spending an afternoon at the county landfill is not exactly a photographer’s dream, but I tried to have a good attitude about it and I think it paid off in the end.

Standing there though, I couldn’t help but ponder the irony of this oddly colorful pile of human detritus, fragments of lives strewn about the ground like a patchwork quilt.

Somewhere in that heap are pieces of my life as well, testimony to our gluttonous materialism, witness to tiny slivers of time that now exist only in memory.
